HoA&D_assignment 3

For the history of art and design assignment 3,
i had chosen to analysed the artwork called
"WOMEN HOLDING A BALANCE" by the artist called Jan Vermeer.

this artwork was painted using oil paint on white canvas on year 1662-1665.
and the painting was painted in a small size which is 42.5x38 cm.
this artwork now located at The National Gallery, Washington.

The main subject matter in this painting was the woman who standing in front of a table and holding a balance with her right hand.
And behind the woman, hanging a artwork called The Last Judgement[drawn by Jacob de Backer, 1580].
Due to the research of the artists , they state that the balance holding by the women was empty.
So, this painting shows that the women is weighing spiritual more than the real material like pearl or gold that we can see on the table.
Besides, there was another question we can ask in this painting.
Do the woman pregnant?
After research and interpretation, most people conclude that the woman did no pregnant.
The woman looks like pregnant was because of her attire.
The yellow garment skirt wearing by the woman was consider as the trend in 18th century Dutch culture.
the skirt made the women look more like pregnant.

The colour tone used by Jan Vermeer in this painting is more towards cool colours.
The colour used created a feeling of calm for the artwork.
And the artist also use shallow space in this artwork to create intimacy of he woman with the background.

A few principals of art also found in this artwork which made this artwork more realistic and harmony.
After i analysed this artwork, i had learn a lot of knowledge which not only element or principal of art,
and also some Dutch culture and Jan Vermeer drawing style.

I really hope that i can use all this knowledge in my final to score well in the examination.

A LATE POST

1.What do you want this course?
At first, i chose this course because im interested in design.
but some of my friends who study graphic design before advise me,this is a tiring course compare to other.
After SPM, my mum start to ask me, what course i wan to study?
and i answered GD,,my mum said,
study whatever course you interested because the future is mine.
I really feel lucky because my have a open minded mum.^^
The main reason i chose GD is i like drawing and design for sure.
By study GD, i can become a designer.
I hope i can become a successful designer after i graduate from uni, i hope i able to give my mum a better
   life=]

2.What you want to be doing in 5...10..20 years?
   Erm,,after 5 years,,
   im already graduate from uni,
i wish i will become a successful designer,
but i know it is hard to become a successful designer in malysia because every year, there are thousands of               people who study design graduate.I need to compete with them.
Beside, i hope i able to travel to other countries in future to explore their culture,
because by looking for thing, we will get more knowledge and inspiration which can help us i our design as      well.=]
And another important point is,i wish i able to create my own brand .
   this is my biggest wish.^^

3.What do you hope to get from this particular class?
History of art and design.
the first time my i saw my timetable, actually i feel shock because of this class.
i believe,history class, for many student,is a boring class.
from primary to secondary school, actually i done quit well in history,
but the truth is, i good in memorize thing and not really interested in history,,><
but until i study my form 4.i meet a good history teacher.
slowly,i interested in history,i will found that, history is actually quit interesting if u try to study it.=]
GD is course that related to art,it is good for us to study the history of it because he knowledge that we have today ,are created by the ancient artistes.
I hope i can have more idea about history of art and design through this class not only to pass the exam, but to get more infomation and knowledge of history of art and design.

4.Is history of art and design necessary do you think for your larger goals?
My answer is,yes.
if we want to learn a knowledge, we must learn from the origin of it.
for design, of course we need to study the history also.
we should study it as a all.
We should study from the history,,and how people modified it,,how people get idea from it ,,how people make those knowledge more advanced.
Without this knowledge, our study is consider not completed.
If we did not have a overall knowledge , how we gonna to achieve a larger goals?
So,my opinion is,study history of art and design is important for us who study art today.

first thing that i found is the sunway pyramid shopping center,,,

this is a picture of sunway pyramid that i took from the internet.
the design of sunway pyramid is totally based on the egypt pyramid,
personally i like the design of sunway pyramid because it is unique.
beside,we seldom see this kind of design in our country.
not only malaysian, the design also attract  many foreign traveller to visit it.

the second thing i discover was the influence of Rome culture in mlaysia.

this picture is showing the interior design of stadium negara malaysia.
before this i never notice,
until today my course mate told me,
i realize that the interior design of stadium negara look quit similar to colosseum.
the seat of the stadium negara is built in a curve shape ...
this is similar to the colosseum.
the design like this not only special,
but it can also give the audience a better view.
sometimes,i really appreciate the design that create by ancient people,
because their design really good in idea and it help people today.=]

this arches that located at federal highway is the largest arch in malaysia.
once again,
i never notice this arch design is the Rome culture even i had pass through is arch many times.
although the design is influence by Rome culture,
but this arch is already modified.

there are also some Bahasa Jawi written on the arch.
these arch actually we can found in many places in malaysia with many different design.

normally a tomb is a repository for the remains of the dead.
it generally is a structurally enclosed interment sace or burial chamber.
the tomb in picture is a tomb in malacca.
the design of this tomb is simple and it look still new because people had paint it.

EGYPTIAN PYRAMID

this is my first post in my blog,,
sorry is a late post because of some problem,,,><
in this post,,
i will write things about pyramid,,,

Firstly,i would like to talk about the history of pyramid.
The first pyramid built by EGYPTIAN was called Step Pyramid,at Saqqara for King Djoser, who was the king of 3rd dynasty .
The Golden Age of the pyramid only lasted for about 100years.
The Golden Age of the pyramid was when the great pyramid at Giza were constructed during the historical period of the Old Kingdom.
During the Middle Kingdom, some of the Pharaohs start built pyramid again. But the period of the new kingdom the tradition and history of building the pyramid monument finally ended and the Pharaohs of Egypt were then buried in the rock cut tombs in the valley of the king nears Thebes.

WHY WERE THE ANCIENT EGYPTIAN PYRAMID BUILT?

The history of pyramids has been lost over time.
Many Egytologist believe that they were linked to the religion and beliefs of ancient Egyptian.
The early Egyptian priests evolved a creation myth to explain how some of the Gods or Goddesses came in to being. The Sun God Ra was believed ti have risen from the primeval ocean to the first,conical-shaped,mound of masonary were a material representation of the rays of the sun and how the structure could be a means whereby the dead king could ascent to heaven.

THE PYRAMID AND THE IMPORTANT OF THE STAR

The most important group of stars to the Ancient Egyptian were called the Indestructibles .The Indestrucibles were the two bright stars that always could be seen circling to the North Pole. These stars circled an unmoveable area which the Ancient Egyptian believed was heaven. The positioning of the pyramid were of great importance as they build to align north to a single perfectly aligned vent or shaft which was built into the internal structure of the pyramids pointing  directly to the area they believed was heaven. The shaft led,at an angle, from the burial chamber from the outdside. The soul of the Pharaohs was thus able to travel from the chamber ,up to the shaft,on the path to heaven. The pyramids were therefore believed to be Ressurection vehicles - a stargate leading to heaven.

WHAT WAS INSIDE THE PYRAMID

The purpose of the pyramids was to create a monumental tomb for the Pharaohs .
Inside the pyramid were tomb chambers ,ate rooms and chambers, ventilation shafts and access tunnel.
